The latest at the Torino Collection

Against many odds, Rotterdam happened. In these crazy times we live in Eurovision 2021 was one of the few highlights of the year. (Next to some Legendary Eurovision ensemble releasing a new album after 39 years).

I was thrilled to be at the Jury final and maybe I'm biased, but we had some of the best and varied tunes ever making it to the top. Enough about that, this new collection is about the 2022 Eurovision Song Contest in Italy. Thank You Måneskin!

"Turin" just doesn't have the same ring to it as "Torino" so this year's Eurovision is La Collezione Torino. 

But for the rest you know the drill:

Llámame by WRS (Andrei Ursu) is the 2022 Eurovision entry for Romania. He won the Romanian selection on March 5.

Llámame, a song in Spanish and English, was written by Andrei Ursu himself, Cezar Gună and Alexandru Turcu.

Llámame was released as a digital single on February 10.

The Eurovision version was released on April 1 on the digital EP Mandala (Global records)

Note: Some download stores sell the EP with a different tracklist, without Llámame.

The extended version was added to the original single release in June. Youtube

Estonia - Stefan - Hope

Stefan Airapetjan is the winner of Eesti Laul 2022 with the song Hope. Stefan wrote the song with Karl-Ander Reismann.

The 40 song / 7 night Eesti Laul selection featured several Eurovision stars trying for another chance at Eurovision glory: Elina Nechayeva (2018), Evelin Samuel (1999), Ott Lepland (2012), Stig Rästa (2015) and Anna Sahlene (2002)

The digital single was released on December 5.

On May 27 two remixes were released: The Avocano & B3va remix and an extended version. Not thàt extended though (see versions).

Hope: The Album
November 30 sees the release of Stefan's album Hope including the version we know of the Eurovision entry. Out on CD (Moonwalk) and digital.

Shopping tip: Lasering sell international.

Hope is Stefan's fourth attempt to go to Eurovision.

In 2018 he ended 3rd as Vajé (duo with DJ Hans Noormets) with the song Laura (Walk With Me).

In 2019 he was again 3rd with Without You.

In 2020 he ended 7th with By My Side

In 2020 he was the winner of the Estonian edition of The Masked Singer

Juicy

Spain gave us a National preselection this year. Benidorm Fest 2022.
The competition was won by Chanel (Chanel Terrero Martínez) with the song SloMo (Not a tribute to Mr. Arzi but it stands for Slow Motion).
SloMo is written by Leroy Sanchez, Keith Harris, Ibere Fortes, Maggie Szabo and Arjen Thonen.

The digital single was released on December 24.

The version used at the contest (The Eurovision's Dancebreak edit) was released the morning after the contest.

The vinyl picture disc includes four versions.

It's shaped like a mango (inspired by the line “Te endulzo la cara en jugo de mango” (I sweeten your face in mango juice) and was finally released on November 11 (BMG 538822625)

It's pricy: Fnac Spain has it and so does La Casa Del Disco (International postage14,99)  UK + international: Townsend (Sold Out)

The three night Benidorm Fest selection also featured Eurovision legends Azúcar Moreno but their Postureo didn't make it to the final. 

A promo CD with all Benidorm Fest songs was issued by TVE.

Armenia - Rosa Linn - Snap

ARMTV chose Rosa Linn as the singer for Torino. Her song, Snap, was announced and released on March 19.

Snap is was released on March 19 through your favorite digital sources.

The song is written by Rosa Linn, Larzz Principato, Jeremy Dusoulet, Allie Crystal, Tamar Kaprelian and Courtney Harrell.

We know Tamar Kaprelian from Eurovision 2015 (Genealogy at the Vienna Collection)

A 1-track promo cds is issued for promotion in Turin.

Rosa Linn (Ռոզա Լին), born as Roza Kostandyan (Ռոզա Կոստանդյան).

Several versions are released over time with a duet version in English/Italian with young Italian singer Alfa being the latest. (Andrea Alfa de Filippi). Thanks Rick!

It appears to be longer but that's basically because they have the quiet bits a bit longer.

Chart Success
On June 24 the Fargo remix was released as a digital track. (Youtube). In the same week the song picked up some serious streaming activity thanks to a modestly viral TikTok thing.

Following the Tiktok success Snap charts in many countries, making this year's #20 the biggest hit of the year. 

After going top 10 in several countries Snap went to #1 in the Belgian Flemish Charts.

Tying in with the popularity of Snap on TikTok, a version Snap - High and fast is on Spotify and Youtube, which is a speeded up version with chipmunk like vocals. It's silly but still listed on the official Rosa Linn list/account. The EP version "low and slow" is equally silly, but hey, anything for the streaming numbers.

The song is written by S10 with Arno Krabman

The song was revealed on March 3. The official music video is here. 

S10, real name Stien den Hollander, operates in the Dutch Hip Hop realm and her entry is performed in Dutch. 

By Surviving the semi it's the first time for a Dutch language song in a Eurovision final since 1997. 25 Years.

A vinyl single was released on October 10 (although some got it a few days earlier.
A special acoustic version with Joep Beving on piano is included on the single.

It's orderable here (for NL) but I'm sure there will be more options come October.

Finland - The Rasmus - Jezebel

The Rasmus are the winner of the 2022 Uuden Musiikin Kilpailu in Finland. Their song Jezebel is the Eurovision entry for Torino.

Jezebel is written by Desmond Child and Rasmus singer Lauri Ylönen.

The digital single has been out since January 17. 

For the Eurovision CD 10 seconds were shaved off the original.

On May 27 two remixes were released: The TOON remix and the 2icons remix. (digital releases)

The Rasmus are probably the most well known act Finland has ever selected. Their In The Shadows was a top 10 hit in most European countries in 2003. The album Dead Letters was equally successful. They managed to keep the success going in Finland, Germany, Austria and Switzerland where all their post Dead Letters albums charted.

The Rasmus have released nine albums so far.

Rise

Album #10 for The Rasmus was released on 23 September. It includes Jezebel in the original version.

The box includes the LP, CD, bonus CD, 48 page book, A signed photo card and a metal logo pin in a velvet bag.

Songwriter

The Rasmus' singer Lauri Ylönen wrote Jezebel with American songwriter / producer Desmond Child.

It's not the first Jezebel for Desmond Child, the Biblical bad girl was also the title of a Ricky Martin song he penned in 2000: Jezabel.

Desmond Child co-wrote Believe In Me for Bonnie Tyler (UK Eurovision 2013) but that's just a drop in the ocean compared to his impressive list of works starting with I Was Made For Loving You by Kiss in 1979. For example he co-wrote most of Bon Jovi's biggest hits. I can make a list but Wiki already did that, so.

United Kingdom - Sam Ryder - Space Man

After a week or so of rumours BBC confirmed SPACE MAN* by Sam Ryder as the U.K. entry for Torino. SPACE MAN is written by Sam Ryder (credited as Sam Robinson on the cds) with Max Wolfgang and Amy Wadge.

The 2nd place in the final is the 16th runner up spot for the U.K., 24 years after the previous one.

The song was released on February 24 in a longer version (3:37).

An acoustic version was released on April 21

Apple music has a digital EP including the Apple Music Home session which is very similar to the acoustic version but shorter. It is only available through Apple music and iTunes (which means a points reduction in my book).

The version as heard at the contest was released as a digital track on 18-5 (some outlets later)

A limited edition cdsingle is released on May 13. This has the original version and  it also includes the acoustic version with piano. (Parlophone 97144486)

Both cdsingles are now sold out in the official store but there are plenty flippers selling it at e-bay and discogs. At heavily increased prices obviously.

A promo with 5 versions has popped up, reportedly from Brazil.

It has the original version, acoustic and the three Sam Feldt mixes.

Not sure if it's genuine though, picture wanted.

Remixes, Man

A digital release of a new remix, the ATH remix, happened on May 31 (Youtube). 

On June 10 a remix by Sam Feldt was released. Sam Feldt earlier remixed another Eurovision tune:  Arcade by Duncan Laurence but I guess you already knew that. (see comments, thanks Krzysztof)

7th Heaven have announced they have remixed SPACE MAN and that "Parlophone has plans with it" but so far no sign of any. But something's coming....

Sam Ryder's album was expected on October 14 but was postponed to November 18 and now to December 9. 

It will be released on CD, Vinyl and cassette (Parlophone) and includess one version of the Eurovision entry. The album is titled There's Nothing But Space, Man.

Pre-ordering can already be done here at Warner Music Store and through HMV, Amazon and the likes.

There's a lot of bundles available some in exclusive artwork. There a blue vinyl and a black one and two CD sleeves and two MCs.

Only the bundles come with a signed postcard (or Artcard as they call it)

Sam Ryder (finally) enters the official U.K. top 100, after already spending 8 weeks on the sales charts and having a #1 there.
